ART CHIC ON VYNER STREET!
Beyond the established West End galleries and polished architectural spaces of Hoxton another art world exists - the hidden and mysterious Vyner Street - a little thoroughfare lying in the deepest, darkest East End made up solely by galleries. This street is where it’s at - vibrant, young and chock a block full of new contemporary art.
In association with “Time-out”- Vyner Street galleries - open their doors to the public on the first Thursday of every month. Last night I went along and took a peek - hopping in and out of the many venues - some were as small as a box and others were huge and loft-like. With beer and wine in hand (how could a girl refuse they give for free!) I checked out the art, the installations and what elements make up the London art kid style.
A few essential basics make up the Vyner street look. For boys it was all based around distressed jeans - and structured blazers or army jackets with asymmetric hair. For girls the obligatory beret in all shapes and styles (I’ve always been a fan of the beret and was lovin’ it rocked in so many different ways) Also a lot of mini head pieces/fascinators styled with coloured tights creating an edgy 1940s chick meets punk.
However the accessory du jour on Vyner was a pair of black rimmed oversized spectacles, look arty, look intellectual, look Charles Anastase S/S09… Yes, for 2009 le art geek c’est chic!
And here’s the art!
