No.23 at Matches was bursting with tropical shades, art-deco patterns and polka dot prints yesterday for Jonathan Saunders’ SS 12 press day and private shopping event.

Hot off the catwalk, Saunders’ classic knits, 50s full skirts and sun-drenched cocktail dresses inspired by American housewives in the Eisenhower era and the bright Miami sky graced the rails.

Tough decisions were made with a glass of champagne in hand on what pieces to place orders on by great and good of the world’s press including Sarah Mower (US Vogue), Lisa Armstrong (The Telegraph) and Paula Reed (Grazia).

Oh we do love to add another trophy to our cabinet, so we were thrilled with our latest win at WGSN Global Fashion Awards in New York.

Matches Chief Operating Officer Francis Card travelled to Gotham Hall in New York to pick up the award for ‘Best Brand Mix’ from Valentino’s Vice President for Retail, June Haynes at the black tie event.

The event was attended by the great and the good of world fashion retail and the most talented designers.

Hiding behind Forte Forte’s gorgeous silk capusule collection lies a heroic story of waste not want not. It all starts at Mantero, a renowned family-run Italian fabric company specialising in silks for over 100 years.

At the end of each season the left over printed silks are usually destroyed due to print copyright. But Forte Forte hate to see  good fabric wasted so took the creative approach by printing over the existing designs to create something totally unique, and creating a new collection.

For the final day of Men’s Tailoring Week, No.23 is being taken over – in the most elegant way imaginable – by venerable Savile Row fashion house, Hardy Amies. We caught up with the brand’s super-cool new Creative Director, Claire Malcolm, to talk shell suits, Elvis and Turkish Delight.

*What is your first memory of wearing a suit? Did your father wear suits? 

My first memory of wearing a skirt suit was when I worked as a bar manager at a golf club when I was 18. I don’t really remember my dad wearing suits when I was younger. He was a Formula 1 photographer and suits aren’t the most practical of garments for a pit lane!

Day 3 of Men’s Tailoring Week saw a packed appointment book for Adrien Sauvage and his super tall side-kick George Lamb.

Luckily for the pair there was plenty of time to unwind in the evening as stylists and VIP’s indulged in Dorsia Martini’s; a classic Martini with black olive and an Absolut vodka, lychee, lemon juice and a scent of cassis cocktail.

No. 23 at Matches was laid out with the finest of the A/W 11 collection for our special guests to browse the natty check suits and quirky colour palettes that are the designer’s signature.
